Day 5 – Witchy – #AprilArtChallenge

From the start, I decided I wanted the witch to have a traditional but comical look. I didn’t want her to be beautiful by any means.

I first drew the dress and hat on black cardstock paper. I made sure to keep the dimensions in mind. After I had the dress and hat done, I cut them out and then used that as reference to draw the hand, the legs, and the head.

I knew I wanted her eye to glow, so I cut out a circle for the eye and added yellow transparent paper behind her head. I made sure to draw in the pupil with black marker. Then I glued those pieces together.

After that, I began working on the hat details. I wanted it to have three layers to make it more three dimensional. I also worked on the details of her face – I darkened her body to match. And I added her hair. There was a bottom layer and a top layer to make it a bit more textured.

Lastly, I attached her hat, with the front of the brim of the hat over her head. Then I added a bit more highlights and shadows to the witch and a bit more texture to her hair.

This prompt took a lot less time than I anticipated it would. I will post an update on the light box once it’s complete.
