This week I managed to complete two of my light boxes. I find this part really exciting because I never really know what the end result will be until they are actually done.
I also started working on two new projects, but both of them are in the very beginning stages. I will most likely begin work on another light box as well. I’m trying to cram in as much work, because once the baby comes (I’m due in six weeks) I won’t have much time to do anything.

#Mermay Art Challenge

I finished my Mermay inspired light box and I am absolutely delighted with the way it turned out. It is by no means perfect, there are a lot of little tweaks I could have made to make it even better, but it’s best not to dwell on them, especially when I love the end result.
For this piece, making it mostly out of vellum and adding lots of layers really helped get the feel that I was going for. I love the glow that several different layers and creatures emit. I also love how colorful it turned out.

The second light box I finished was the Womb Sweet Home light box. This one was also an experimental box that was constructed differently than any previous light box I had created.
All of the background layers were constructed using vellum. I had to redo the background several times because it didn’t look the way I wanted it to, but in the end, I think it came together. This light box definitely holds a special place in my heart.
PVAA Monthly Show – Vintage/Nostalgia
For this month’s PVAA Monthly Show, I began working on a new light box. It will be more story based than some of the other ones I’ve worked on recently.
I am in the very early stages and have just begun putting together the base, but I’m excited to see how it will come together. I only have a week to finish this one (it’s due June 2nd), but it’s definitely doable.
Personal Picture Book Project
After meeting with my writing group, one of the group members suggested that I consider having the picture book, I wrote and illustrated for my son, be more of an interactive book. Then the other members suggested that it perhaps be a pop up book. I absolutely love pop up books; however, I have zero experience working with pop ups. Not sure if I will completely pursue that route just yet.
After much thought, I decided I would try an open the flap page book with some elements that are typically found in pop up books. I have the sketch worked out for the most part, but I have yet to work on it. I agreed to take in a prototype of one of the pages to our next writing group meeting, which will take place on June 16th.
