The Story
Sebastián lived in a home that was . . .
small,
quiet,
and dark.
Just the way he loved it.
But life took an unexpected turn when he was forced to evacuate and move in with his roommates known as Mom, Dad, and Charlie, the cat.
Extra Info & Pictures
This light box was a remake of an illustration I made for the book I wrote and illustrated for my son – it’s an unpublished book. The illustration was drawn on paper with pencil, then it was edited on Photoshop.
I decided to remake this illustration for Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI’s) Monthly Challenge/Contest “Draw This”. This month’s prompt was Naked.
I originally wanted it to be an interpretation of a first home – literally. Therefore, I decided to add little furniture pieces and props that a baby might need to be comfortable and in preparation for his/her big arrival. The original illustration is included below.
I definitely struggled to cut the vellum layers in the right sizes and to attach them correctly so that they would look the way I envisioned them. However, it was definitely a wonderful learning experience. I also explored stepping out of the box (literally) a bit more, to give the light box a more unique look.
