Queen of Hearts

The Story

Don’t be fooled by the Queen’s youthful and somewhat innocent appearance. A few years back, at the age of 87, she made a terrible pact with the devil. He would restore her youth, health and beauty in exchange for her soul. She agreed instantly, before realizing that the secret ingredient to being young again was eating the hearts of her dead relatives.

It was hard for her at first, but as soon as she saw the changes in the mirror, she came to enjoy eating their cold dead hearts. To make it easier, they moved into the family’s cemetery.

What the queen ceased to notice was that she was no longer in the world of the living, and instead doomed to live in hell feasting on corpses hearts and fingers, until she would be reduced to a fetus and then. . . nothing, just a thing burning in hell for eternity.

Extra Info & Pictures

I really enjoyed working on this light box. It morphed a few times in the process. Initially, I wanted to have an older king and queen, but then I decided on a young queen. The butler was also supposed to simply be an extra character that would look like an ordinary man, but he soon became a central character. And the unusual landscape was going to be an upside down world, but I ended up changing my mind and changing the story right along with it.
