Making Shapely Fiction by Jerome Stern – It has a lot of useful information on different writing strategies as well as what pitfalls to avoid. It is a very easy and enjoyable read. Highly recommended for aspiring writers as well as experienced writers.
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers: How to Edit Yourself Into Print by Renni Browne and Dave King – Another wonderful book that helps writers understand how to revise their work. It helped me take notice of techniques I was implementing that weakened the quality of my work. I am still working through the book and I look forward to learning much more.
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King – Stephen King is one of my all time favorite writers. This book is a wonderful read. Stephen King shares stories about his past, tips on how to improve our writing, tips on how to stay motivated and focused, and much more. I am thoroughly enjoying this wonderful book, just like all of Stephen King’s novels.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Publishing Children’s Books (Third Edition) by Harold D. Underdown – This book is a great read for those of us who don’t know much about the publishing world. I recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more.
If you are on a tight budget, I would recommend that you see if your local library carries any of these books, or other similar books. The library is a great resource.
