January Illustrations – Little Nia

Little Nia 1

One of my goals for this year was to create at least one portfolio piece a month. I wanted to challenge myself by adding variety to my portfolio, in terms of composition, perspective, and theme.

For this month, my goal was to create at least one illustration that showed my characters in a different angle than what I normally would illustrate.

The little Nia illustrations came to life pretty quickly. I decided I wanted to tell a short story, about a young child who is very small, but who has very big dreams. And from that, little Nia was born.

This piece is a reminder that we all have big dreams and no one is too small or too old to work towards their goals.

I created both of these illustrations with cut cardstock paper and colored pencils. I made some minor adjustments in Photoshop.
